(20 March 2014) Following on from the decisive result of the Italian referendum on private management of water services in 2011, Lazio’s regional government has unanimously passed a law that will facilitate management of water services being passed to local authorities.

(19 mars 2014) La Commission européenne (CE) a publié aujourd'hui dans une Communication sa réponse officielle à la première Initiative Citoyenne européenne (ICE) réussie, initiative qui l'invitait à « mettre en œuvre le droit humain à l'eau et à l'assainissement dans la législation européenne ».  Dans sa Communication, la Commission européenne rappelle l'importance du droit humain à l'eau et à l'assainissement,  affirme l'importance de l'eau comme un bien public et comme une valeur fondamentale et répète que « l'eau n'est pas une marchandise ». Cependant, cela s’arrête là.

(11 March 2014) An investigation by the Court of Auditors in Portugal has uncovered the true consequences of private management of the water sector: private companies pocket hefty profits whilst residents and local authorities are left to pick up the bill.

(21 June 2014) As the debate for the human right to water reaches the European Parliament, in Spain citizens have taken the streets of Alcazar de San Juan to stop the water privatization. A city of around 30.000 inhabitants has collected over 11.000 signatures against  the proposed water privatization and over 1000 citizens have blocked the city council and occupy the building on the eve of the vote.

The "right2water" campaign seeks to secure universal access to clean water and sanitation and opposes the liberalisation of water services. Its organisers will be taking part in the Parliament's first official hearing for the European Citizens Initiative

(30 January 2014) News Splash n° 24 On 17 February our European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) “Water is a human right!” will be the subject of a public hearing in the European Parliament. The same day we will meet with the European Commission. In line with the regulation on ECIs we will be given the opportunity to explain our demands in both sessions.

(13 January 2014) Together with the certificates that represent 1.66 million valid signatures for our European Citizens’ Initiative we have given our wish-list to the European Commission. It is a list with practical and concrete actions
